Born in Bushey, Herts in 1954 I was brought up in Harrow, Middlesex and attended Harrow School of Art where I gained a Fine Art degree, I had some wonderful tuition from one particular tutor, Ken Howard OBE RA. My qualification earned me a place as apprentice illustrator in a London studio working on books and magazines often with incredibly short deadlines. After three years I decided that my true aspirations weren't being met and I found a way back into the fine art scene. Painting solidly alone and with various art groups I gained valuable experience. Two tutors stand out for me; Denis Syrett a former President of the ROI and Rod Hamer a brilliant but modest artist and excellent jazz trumpeter. My exhibiting was becoming more fruitful and moving from watercolour to oil, acrylic back to dry mediums I found I could develop my own styles which have become looser and more expressive. Out of London to Buckinghamshire in 1978 then to Wiltshire in 2008. Success in my own work led naturally to teaching art to adults in all forms, writing for magazines, demonstrating and working as reviewer for art materials.
